I have several types of brown egg layers including Delawares, RIR, BO's, etc. I have noticed to my dismay that the Delaware egg yolk color is light yellow, like store bought egg yolks, while everyone else has orange, like a home grown egg should look. They are all eating the same stuff. Is this common with Delaware's or just the ones I have?

I doubt it has anything to do with the breed. Could be that they aren't eating as much of whatever is making the other yolks orangey. Not all homegrown eggs have orange yolks since it's really a direct result of their feed. Try giving them more greens and see if it has any effect. I haven't noticed my Dels' eggs are any different color than in the other flocks.

What is so strange is that out of three Delawares laying so far, all three have yellow yolk eggs. While none of my BO's or RIR's lay yellow yolk eggs. Thanks for replying.

My Dellies always had orange yolks when they were free ranging, and yellow in the winter when they were on lay ration.

One is an older girl, probably 2 years and the others are pullets just stating to lay. It's just strange.
