Delawareans!!

Sorry, 2 is plenty. plus I might try and hatch some of the eggs in the spring, so if all goes well I'll have a hand full.

Oh man! I forgot I even posted this thread!!! HA!

I am glad to see that there is at least one other Delawarean here!! I grew up in Bear, my parents still live there! And Marlinchaser is right, I do have REAL blue hens! LOL.

I think we should take some of Maryland and make Delaware bigger..

But for now I will have to deal with my little state and being alone...well almost alone.

I want a Turkey! Hubby says no, he says I am maxed out in the bird department! Luckily he loves Boss, so he says he will never leave our place!

Do you have any pictures you can post of your Blue hens? never really seen one. are they good layers?

If you go up to the search engine, I have lots of threads with pictures. My Blue Hen Rooster just won the Blues contest! Not sure about the laying yet, they haven't started. Any day now I am expecting the first blue hen egg!

Here is a picture of my rooster, Caesar!

Hey Delaware people!

We live in NJ and are considering a move to Delaware. Could anyone recommend places to look into? Places to stay away from? PMs would be appreciated if you don't want to flood one of the Delaware threads - although it could use more posts. lol

There's another Delaware thread around here somewhere...
I lived there for a few years.. couldn't wait to get back to Texas though...

I must admit I do miss the maple trees and the rain... mostly the rain... and the seagulls.... ok.. so I like rats with wings! lol

Kent county isn't TOO bad.. kind of depends on where you are and if you're in a bad neighborhood or not (I lived in Magnolia and Camden).. really have to watch zoning for critters though since your neighbors WILL turn you in to code enforcement in a heartbeat if they can find ANYTHING you are doing that they don't like.. so be sure to check the rules and regs for the neighborhood first before you move with your chickens.. and even then you might not be safe from nosy neighbors.. chickens were legal where I was (zoned agricultural) but I crossed a neighbor when i found her kids in my house uninvited and chased them out.. so she turned me in complaining that the chickens were an "eyesore" (not their coop.. but the actual chickens)... yeah.. go figure THAT one out since i hadn't been there a week and the chickens were still babies, still in the brooder and hadn't moved out into their coop at that time!

"Slower Lower" (Sussex county) can be pretty scary though.. unless you're really into Nascar .. (Lived in Selbyville and Millsboro which was technically the Indian River Inlet.. but our address still said Millsboro),, we had goats and chickens there without any problems.. but our neighbors were usually drunk and sitting by their burn barrel on the couch they dragged out into the yard.. (don't ask).. wasn't the "nicest" of areas.. but we never had any problems other than the neighbors fighting and threatening to shoot another neighbors chihuahua which they swore was a giant rat who wore a pink dress.. (again.. don't ask).. lol.. so "Slower Lower" CAN be entertaining if you have a warped and twisted sense of humor.. a scary place if you don't

and I avoided New Castle county when I could.. too much crime and pollution for me.. but then again I don't care for the "city" attitude I ran into from a lot of people there...

ok.. so I'm partial to livin out in the sticks here in Texas... cows for neighbors.. never see many people...

The resort areas are ok-ish.. and here's why I say that... I worked part time at the beach for a while (Rehoboth and Dewey).. they were nice in the off season.. but during tourist season the "out of staters" made me want to kill someone .. they would come in with the attitude that you were working there so you must be their slave.. and that since they were there on vacation they owned the place.. have I mentioned I like living out in the sticks away from people?.. lol

If any of you have plans for an order of chicks or are incubating any and would give up a few, I have a friend in Northern Delaware that needs a few chicks for a broody. Email me?

Thanks!!
