Ok here is Day 7's candling results....

Delawares:
13 obviously good
5 need a bit more time to be sure

Barred Plymouth Rocks:
5 ovbiously good
3 need a bit more time
2 infertile

BBS Orpingtons:
All 5 infertile.... I was looking forward to having one or two in my laying flock too.

But... seems I will be overrun with Dels... like usual. I got Delaware bantams comming too... lots of white birds with black barring going to be running around here!

I'll let you know in a week and a little bit!!! They should be here tomorrow!!!!! If they are I'll set them Thursday!

The two infertile BRs were from Amanda... thought maybe you would want to know that. And all the Orps were from Dusty. Hmm... maybe they are better at staying away from the boys.

Grace'sDad :

Just stopped by to say HI. I am going to try to visit every thread I can during February.

I've been enjoying your notes, My grandson and I started 48 the evening of the 2nd also, attempted to candle a few last evening. I can see the upperend (2/3) of them clouding up. Maybe a few veins ---(dark eggs, older eyes, and not positive what to expect). Anyway , I think it's going ok.
We have BR, BufOrf, Delaware, Hampshire, Hens. ---- 2 Delaware and 1 Hampshire Rooster. so I guess we'll get some variety. If we get anything.---what are BBS Opringtons?

BBS = Blue, Black,Splash

Jerryn, where did you get your Delawares? Have you been on the Delaware thread over in Breeds, genetics, etc? Lots of fun, crazy people there!

Stacey- I am sorry about the Orps, but look at all those Dellie eggs that look good! I am keeping my fingers crossed for you!

Stacy, in the batch that are starting to hatch at my place, neither of Amanda's were fertile, either. Wonder what's up with her and Dutch lately? The Orps concern me, though. I hope Suede hasn't lost fertility, but he is older and it is winter, so maybe it's just a temporary thing. I thought I saw a bullseye on one of the eggs I cracked open, but maybe it's just in and out. I hope it's in now because I'm going to send kathyinmo some BBS Orps next week. They were fertile in the last batch she had, but there were hatching complications.
