DELAWARES, Barred Rock *** PIPS AND ZIPS ***

FINALLY!! Baby #2 is here... one of Ellie's. This is the one the first chick was huddled with for over a hour now. Just like you see in the picture.

Now, we have one unmarked Del egg pipped... One Georgie (Del) pipped.... two more Ferns(!!!) pipped... and a Lexie pipped (BR)

Let's see if the first chick can predict who is next twice in a row!

I woke up to 5 chicks! #1 was Fern's (BR), #2 was Ellie's (Del), #3 was the unmarked Del, #4 (I'm almost certain was next) Georgie's (Del), and #5 was Fern's again (BR)!!!!!

I have a beak poking out of Lexie's... we'll see if the little booger can make it out.

2 More Fern's (BR) pipped... 2 Becca's (BR) pipped... and a Georgie (Del) pipped...

Wonder what is taking the Del's so long?

More pictures as the day goes on........

Out of the Del's Gracies are doing the best so far.

I think I have some insight to Lexie's problem... the one seems to be drowning (it's air sack was never big enough for my taste) and I can't do much about it. I let nature decide. Then the other one that is hatching right now (lexie's) was a breach baby. lol. I never saw a pip... but then I was looking and the whole egg was moving alot. I looked down the side of the egg and barely saw some eggshell pieces. So I laid that Lexie baby out on the floor and that one is almost here! I had the small end down... silly chick.

I can tell you already that one of the Del's has a 5 point comb. It was still so I counted. That may change and it may get one of those little "blips" on it's comb... but from what it looks now there are exactly 5 points!

Uh... not a breach baby... the head was where it should have been..... just broke the shell down on the bottom. I hope it's head was in the right position. I would hate to have another crippled baby to put down.

I had some bantam barnevelders hatch and two of them had developed wrong. I had to put them down and that is never fun.

Uh oh. Problem. That little Lexie baby's umbilical cord is not healed up. It's out and I have never had this issue before. I'm nervous. I'm trying to upload a pic..... stupid computer isn't reconizing my camera all of a sudden! ARG!

Umbilical cord out? Can you do what Cynthia did with Superchick's and poke it back in and glue the baby together? Superchick did GREAT- was a little slow to grow, but was catching up before he died in a freak playing accident with his buddies.

I am lurking with great anticipation here- Hope the rest of your hatch goes well!

Right now I'm watching closely. It's getting around better, but still...

It's not attached to the shell - anymore. I left it be, and it came off after a few minutes. I don't want to open the lid again. I took all the fluffy babies out and put them in the brooder to minimize the stress of being trampled for the little one.

My camera still doesn't want to function with the computer!!! I got a good pic to show you all what I mean too.

On a more positive note: I still have two "ferns" pipped... one pip from becca (BR) and one zip from becca... Ellie has another pip (Del) and that is all I can see going on now. Still waiting on the Dels to catch up for the most part. lol. Just like them to be causing trouble.

While they were all still in the bator... the BRs were behaving and staying on the ground... not the Dels! They were climbing all over the other eggs and pecking at the pip spots on the eggs. Bad Dellie, Dellie. (you know how many times a day I say that!?!?)
