DELAWARES, Barred Rock *** PIPS AND ZIPS ***

I think I may convert! They are very cute. I can't breed them, though. I already planned out the coops and ordered the buildings and had them installed!!! These have to be layers. Ah, who knows... maybe I could build a extra coop somewhere. lol

PS I got another BR - this one from Becca.

What causes chicks to be wet and stinky? It seriously (and I don't know how) looks like it pooped in it's shell before it zipped. That is what looked and smelled like. That chick is getting around better now, BTW. I think it may make it.

Why heck no we didn't finish... those Dels are just now starting to pop out. lol Guess they wanted to have the 'bator to themselves.

We got all the BR's out last night... then I passed out from having only 2 and a half hours sleep Monday night. (things have been hecktic here!!)

When I woke, there was two more Dels. One from Georgie and one just marked "Del".

The wet chick is walking around great now!!!! The only problem is that some liquid (brownish yellow in color) oozes out it's vent. I'm not sure if it is passing all that is swallowed when it was trying to hatch or if this is some illness and I should cull. I have never dealt with this one before. I have always just let them hatch or not... this time I sucumb to helping it a bit and now I don't know what's up. I guess I will google and do some research and see what I can come up with. That egg STUNK when it hatched too! In every other way, though, that baby (now) looks fine. Little small, but it moves like it should and can stand and walk (which it couldn't really do before I fell asleep).

That is exactly what it looked like... but then what is the brownish liquid (that came out the shell) comming out it's vent now?

But, yes, it looked like poo in the shell once it got out. I wasn't going to worry once the thing started to move about... but just this morning I picked him up to move him to the brooder and he leaked that liquid on me (VERY GROSS).

Pics comming in a moment!

Here is the brooder this morning.... still more comming... it is getting crowded!
