DELAWARES, Barred Rock *** PIPS AND ZIPS ***

Well, not really. We had one more. It was pipped for some time, but hadn't zipped yet. I picked all the pipped eggs up (thinking they might be "gone") and it was the only one which moved. I also noticed that it was leaking the liquid like the one BR. So I laid it down on the floor and about 2 minutes later it was out! But it looked a little worse than "wet chick". Right now it is in the 'bator chirping like it needs help. I can't stand this part. I am trying to give it time. "wet chick" is litterally running in the brooder, so I'm hoping this Del will be ok too. All I can do right now is let the little booger dry out and try to learn to walk in there. Both this one and "wet chick" are small and seem like they needed more time in the egg or something. "Wet chick" is literally half the size of the others in the brooder. This one seems like it will be too - if it makes it.

I'm not thinking any of the other Dels will hatch afterall. It is going to be day 23 after 2am this night. I left them all in until morning, just incase I'm wrong. I really don't see any movement, though or hear chirping and scratching.

I'll keep posting about the wet Del. We'll see if the booger comes through or not.

Final count is 8 and and 8.

The last Del is doing better already. It is getting around better, but I still wouldn't call it walking. It's left eye hasn't opened yet, but neither did "wet chick" (who just a moment ago learned how to drink!)

Not sure what happened to the Dels. The non hatchers were Gracie's (3), Ellie's (2), Georgie's (2), and a unmarked Del (1). All the BR's hatched but only Lexie's gave any sort of trouble... but both are running and eatting and drinking in the brooder now.

I'm excited. In a couple weeks we will get a idea what sex is what. It doesn't take long for Dels to feather. I have never had BR's before, so this is going to be fun! I just got back from the brooder room a second ago. I was in the middle of typing this when I got called to the room. "Penny is out!" Penny is my only wheaten penedesenca - she is crafty. I had put 12 of those in... and only she hatched. In the same clutch was 7 bantam barnevelders... all of them hatched, but I had to put one down right away and there is another I may have to put down tommarrow. Seems they have alot of deformities in those bantams. All with their legs. If I have to put that one down tommarrow that would make three bantam barnevelders I have had to put down for leg issues. I find that strange.

Well, I hope they all make it- I know nothing about incubating, so have no idea why you are having trouble- but thanks for starting this thread and letting us all share!

I think it was the humidity. It must have been high. I don't know why, other than maybe the fish tank in the room. Everything else was done exactly as many, many times before. The only thing different was it was our first time in this room and we have a fish tank in here. Probrably added to the humidity and I didn't even think of it until now. That explains the wet chicks and the umbilical cord and the fully developed chicks not hatching. Why did I not think about it? Geesh.

Well, congratulations on 16 new chicks!
