Delawares from kathyinmo

Hello Leslie and Duck Fans Everywhere!
Evidently you have had little experience with eating homegrown ducks. Good news! These feathered beasties are so embed with fat in their muscles that they are always tender. Enjoy!

Thinking about the ducks. Have you ever tried to finish your plucking by dipping in wax and plunging in cold water? I've been thinking about getting white muscovies and this is my quandry. How much harder are they to do than chickens?
Thats the way we always did it on wild ducks - remove the big feathers and dip -works great- feathers come off in sheets
The last two feathers on the bottom of the wings of many of my young F'5 cockeral are about an inch longer than the other wing feathers and curl upwards. It looks very odd........... I have been breeding several breeds of chickens for about six years including the hidden broody mutt chicks and have never seen anything like this.
PICs would be outstanding - I would do some but can't figure out how to spread the wing and take the pic at the same time- but I am thinking about it.

Same problem here, lack of hands ... Plus the darkness when the birds are catchable. And the limitations of an iPhone camera.

No I don't know anyone that is hatching Dels right now - Some may have some older birds to move .
Where you located ?
I'm in North Texas - between Dallas and Sherman. I want chicks - I can wait until spring to get some if people will have them then. I could even go with eggs in the spring.

I know My Pet Chicken and Ideal Poultry carry them. I'd rather have breeder birds though.

OK - this line on this thread are Recreated Delawares - starting from scratch - if you don't know the history you can find it at the Del club link below.

We pretty much put together our modular cockerel cage in 4 hours today. We'd already put the wire on the cattle panels, so today was for pounding stakes and attaching the panels together, and putting the ends on. Next we have to put some weatherproofing on it.

Thank you. I read the first few pages of the thread. The chickens are still Delawares, even if they are started from scratch. :)

I'm looking for some chicks, either now or in the spring
