Delawares from kathyinmo

Yep we got red clay dirt - but then they look brassy top and bottom.

Open curtains heres the F5 girls - I am missing a couple of the 10 but to cold and cloudy to hang around long:

I think this one is the most like mine in terms of body shape when mine pose nice like that. I like the distinctness of the barring in her neck. I don't think I've seen any here with white so far back into their tails. I wonder what would happen if she lifted her tail up to the 30 degree angle, if more black would show. Otherwise what barring she does have around her tail seems to be pretty close to what the SOP illustration has. I don't know that I'm seeing both barring and black in the same tail here. I seem to get either/or.

With their red combs/faces I'm curious to know when they start to lay.

Edited to correct the tail angle thing ... female Delawares should be up at 30 degrees, not 40 like I originally stated.

I do get the updates and have been following this thread, just don't have much time what with DW being sick and all that entails. Plus getting ready for the snow. We've had some but much is gone now.

There is still much to do as always.

Take care keep posting pictures.

"Patience Grasshopper"You got same stock with good genes - it will happen . We could always switch some genes from the same line .
Me too!! The only pullet I have with a correctly coloured tail is a darling litte Delawegger that a surprise Olive egger broody brought me. She could pass for a Delaware if she did not have the puffy cheeks :)

I thought you had some nice pullets ?

They have really nice type but all have barred tails and am down to keeping only six. Don't think I will be breeding any of them back to Dad, just the original Moms to a son or two and then see where I am for 2016. Leslie and I may do some swapping............

We are starting to put the dorm room on the cockerel coop today so we can keep growing out all the males we hatched this year. Meanwhile in the breeding coop where all the females are living with the one original F4 male, the dust bath seems to be helping answer some of the questions we have about color.

After the younger birds have a bit more time to mature and the F4s finish molting I'm hoping you can come take a look at what we've got here and then we can pick the best of both our flocks to breed to the best for "better" results next season.

I think we can make some progress. Maybe not patiently, but steadily.
