Delawares from kathyinmo

Hello to you all.

I think I might try to hatch some in the spring . . . . maybe. I don't really have a large flock anymore. I have 2 Delaware roosters left, and they are not the 2 I had marked as the best for breeding.

I took a few pictures the other day. Not too good, but here they are . . .

It's great to see you. I hope you and your family are all doing well.

I love this photo of all the different birds co-mingling.

I'm having a lot of fun working with the trio of your Delawares that I got through Zanna. They have some nice qualities, and enough stuff to work on to make it interesting. Thank you so much for all you did to make this happen. You did good work.

I'm getting eager to get started with this year's breeding. I'll put Mr. Fatty in with the females right after Zanna takes PapaDel off to do some serious work with her very pretty females. Then I'll set eggs as soon as I get a broody. Fingers crossed for nice F6s from Oregon!

I still haven't sorted through my pullets. I'm kinda waiting for more eggs from that coop before I shuffle the culls over to the laying flock. We got 8 eggs from the Delaware coop yesterday, the most so far. And fewer of them are under 50 grams. The two hens' eggs are up around 70 g. I really appreciate big eggs for the egg customers.

Speaking of big eggs: there is a farm near me that sells jumbo (over 72 g) conventionally-fed pastured eggs for $3.50/half-dozen. That could pay for some feed! But I'd have to make twice as many sales to get rid of all our eggs. Ick. I'm not good at selling stuff!

So I was out snowblowing there are a few branches hanging down and I noticed these and thought. Perhaps Pawxtawny Phil is wrong. I do believe in miracles you know. I don't know what kind of tree it is. Certainly not an Almond in NY.

Hi Kathy, nice to "meet" you! I'm picking up hatching eggs tomorrow from Finnfur and am thrilled to be receiving lines you've worked on so diligently. Can't wait to see what can be done with this lovely breed.

So glad to hear from you and that you didn't give up the chicken world. You should be real proud of what you created. Although still a work in progress
it is growing and progressing nicely. Even some show placements have been recorded.
I like the last Cock down with the lighter tail. The darker tailed one seems to have he same wing issue that keeps showing up regular with all of us ?
Thanks for joining us - we alway welcome your expertise .
I am hopeful of getting rid of the wing problem too!

Those big eggs sound great!
Hope you have great hatches and get some great chicks!

Oh yes! I do totally agree! Mike and I were looking at the buds we have on our trees and bushes here, too. We have had an extraordinarily warm winter. 60s and 70s frequently! I dislike snow and am enjoying it, too!

Hi Kittie!
I am excited to see people working on them! It is great!

I'm currently posting in a thread over on the Delaware group page at Facebook with someone who was kind enough to share some photos of her line, which is from Whitmore. She is also culling for wing issues. She seems to be sharing birds with a breeder working with birds from Sand Hill.

Here is a cute photo of one of our hatchery hens who isn't quite sure what to make of the bulbs that have popped out of the ground this past week.

I've been wanting Delawares for some time now. I just discovered there is a bantam version of them! I am totally getting some. I'm sure they won't be SOP for the bantam (if there is such a thing) as they are hatchery, but they will sure be cute!
