Delawares from kathyinmo

Kathy,
One of the Dels I hatched here from you had strips on it and I thought at first that It was a different breed. It is coloring up a bit different too. All the others have the color I expected. Although most seem to have more color than the originals. I can not post pic. If someone sends me an email I will try to get a picture on email for them to post. Glad to see you back.

We r back from Texas. Weather just like tv. We were north of the flooding. Much to do. Chicks hatched before leaving ok,but not as big as I'd like. Yard way overgrown. So much to do.

Recent photo of PapaDel (F4, from one of Kathy's shipments ... the male in the starter trio I bought from Zanna) showing that he has filled out more this season, and some of his tail feathers are getting lighter. Not the greatest pose as he was dancing with the cock on my side of the fence (you can see a few of Shade's black tail feathers to the left).

We were talking tails a bit over at the Facebook pages, and I posted this photo of PapaDel with his streamer tail. I got some good advice to help tame the streamers: look for wider, stronger feathers and that way the sickle feathers will stand up.

I think last year "feather quality" was one of my three early goals last year, but as the chicks grew out other things became more important. I did have that one male with super wide tail feathers, and a few other cool qualities, but towards the end he started fanning out his tail weird so I decided it was "split" and we ate him.

Zanna says one of her young breeders from this season is shaping up nicely and has a more appropriate tail, so we should have something to start working on tail improvements next breeding season.

Fingers Crossed that other weird and demanding things don't start popping up in this year's chicks!

Getting lighter color happens to us guys as we age unless we use the " just for men"

I think Papa Del looks pretty darn good right there in that pic.

Well I did manage to plant 12 tomato plants since I prepared the beds in the fall last year. I did have to weed whack between all the beds and got that done. There is still cleaning to do of the bins that had chicks. DD just moved them to new bins and left the dirty ones.

AND the yard needs mowing which will not be easy.
