Delawares from kathyinmo

Hi All! I will post pics when I can, I have 21 chicks from Kathy received 4/11, all are doing well. Have had a problem with Cocci this year, first time in 4 years and with my exact same brooding methods. First occurence was in my 4th batch of BCM this season. When I received the Dels, they stayed in my inside brooder for 2 days to make sure all were ok after travel, then they went outside into the brooder with my 5th batch of BCM which are a week older than them. A week later, bloody poops and some droopy chicks so I treated with sulmet, never lost a chick and all are doing well. I also subscribe to the survival of the fittest, but will treat for cocci if need be, nothing else! I do not feed medicated feed and the chicks as soon as they leave the house get a container of sand/poop from the big girls coop so they get exposed to the occysts (sp?) and start building their immunity naturally. Not sure why I am seeing this again this year but at least the treatment works!

Great to hear from you again Bee and I am so excited for all of us!!!

Here are our KIMNIM line Dels 13 plus one White Rock that I think Bee was supposed to get - ship date was 4/24

So, our chicks must be from the same hatch. What do those initials stand for? I can guess the first 3.

Great to see both of you here.

Zanna, I would love to see pics, especially since yours are older. Oregon is one of those places where cocci is prevalent. I'm impressed that you were able to manage it the way you did.

This should be so interesting, with all of us living in such different environments, to observe how this line develops over time.

Well maybe its higher than normal but this is between the wing hinge joint and where the neck meets at same level.
Its not acting sick
And they are all Piggy - eat drink and Poop Poop Poop, then all run around and chase the imaginary bug LOl then Eat and POOP again . Its a chicks life LOL

Ok how did you guys get Kathy's chicks.......... I asked last year fir even her culls, and never got an answer? what do I have to do to get a few of these awsum birds........Kim

Last yr. Kathy was not finished with her birds enough that she felt she could introduce them. This yr. it is a new situation. Right now however she has pneumonia. Give her a bit to recover. Then email her to see if she is going to hatch anymore. Next yr they should be even better. She really has been working hard to get this breed improved and ready to reintroduce from scratch.

Just some observations so far........ These chicks are feathering very slowly, some even have completely bare hineys and they are not picking on each other. None have tail feathers, just the very beginings of them. I have them in with some BCM of my own breeding that are a week younger and the BCM are almost completely feathered and most have full tail feathers. The Dels are about 1/3 larger than the BCM which I would expect being a week older, my BCM are born chunkers though! I wish they were the exact same age so I would have a better comparison. Anyone else raising them with chicks of another breed? I will try to get some pics to post later this evening so you all can see what I am seeing :)

I got a White rock from Kathy by mistake and they all seem close- but mine are only 2 weeks from ship date Wed- wings are feathering primaries- very juicy poop and sticks to feet looks like they are wearing black sandals- didn't have this with last dels - only difference I can think of is using Rooster Booster vits and electrolytes in stead of sav a chick- going to drop it to just
Mother vinegar on Wed and see if better
