When I get it set up I'll either do pics or video and show the setup and explain what I'm doing. Then we'll just have to wait on the results. That's the real clincher as to the effectiveness of this method. I'm using pullet eggs and a not too vigorous male, so I don't even know if these eggs will be viable but they are perfect to practice on.

You'd laugh me off the forum if I told you what I'm proposing to do, so I'll just keep it under my hair until I can get it set up and in progress, will document along the way per video~not every day because that would be as boring as watching paint peel~but just the theory, the action and the results. Could be it will be a big ol' bust and I'll have egg on my face...tee hee!...or not, which will be pretty cool.

If the results are good, no one will be laughing long...they'll be looking back over how they've hatched over the years and be shaking their heads over it all. Let's hope it works.

1. Your dogs going to brood the eggs ? 2. You hired a professional sitter ? 3. your going to set them on your wood stove or top of a oil lamp .?

And whats the matter with watching paint peel . I sit and watch the grass grow sometimes . In fact I wish I could see some growing now LOL

Hey...while I've got you here...could you post a pic of one of your Del eggs up close? I'm getting a different kind of color and speckle pattern in my eggs right now that I've never seen before and the only breed I've never had before that is currently laying are the Dels. I'd like to know if this is a breed characteristic or a single bird trait.

If it's a breed trait, they sure are pretty!

You mean these - its the small one LOL

The darker are NH eggs and two EEs - Rest are two lines of Dels.
The two on top are speckled darker on the large end- some time more pronounced than this . Sometimes they look like a easter egg thats been dipped on one end. Pretty. I can't ID per hen as the layers are currently in one pen.

Yep! That's the ones! That cream colored with a fine speckle is the egg I could not identify. I'm only getting one of those sporadically but have gotten two large eggs of that type in the last few days. I like to learn my hens and their eggs if I can and with this small of a flock I ought to be able to nail them pretty soon.

The BAs are pretty easy and so are the WRs, my NH has a very distinct, small but beautiful egg. I really like the looks of the Del eggs....almost reminds me of a wild bird's egg.

One of my Dels lays an egg with small freckles on one end, the other lays an egg with no freckles.

I'll try to get a picture of this pretty egg tomorrow. The other one is not quite so pretty....just looks sort of..dirty. I had noticed this pale cream egg in the nest and I knew it wasn't one of my regular girls but didn't know what the Dels eggs looked like. This one was almost white with no speckles. Then it was light cream with just dirty looking grey places on it. That was the egg out of my one Del, Aunt Goldie. Just looked like a very pale WR egg.

This new egg is from the other Del, Ruby, and is an elegant, off white with fine sprays of speckle all over it...almost like a wild bird's egg. Very perfect in shape also.

I'll line up the different eggs per breed ID tomorrow and take a pic. Some will look a little smudgy as these are the ones I'm saving for incubating and I don't want to wipe/wash them beforehand. I had always read that Dels lay a darker brown egg but apparently not! I love this variety.

Now I just need some pretty blue ones to throw in the mix.

I read Delawares lay a light brown egg -- mine are pretty light, with a yellowish hue. In the General Population this year some of my new mutts have started laying off white eggs I think are SUPER cool!!!
