Delawares from kathyinmo

NOOOOOOOO not yet. I have a broody Dell! I wanted to wait until I went to the mtns to hatch any more. Although that might not happen. Its just acc. to how my Moms test turned out. The Dr. called wanting to have her in for a visit. That does not sound good. If they were neg. the Dr. office is usually only to glad to tell they are. We will try to set up one tomorrow.

Hope everything's ok with your Mom. Keep us updated.

So you can get to the mountains you love and get them Broody's working

Switched Bert to egg flock and Ernie breed flock . Bert took it well like "Hey I like this ,there are some Brunettes in this group" LOL
Ernie is just pacing the fence today working off energy.
They can see each other but there are four fences between them .
Guess he will calm down.

I currently have 14 broodies. One hatched a couple weeks ago, and 13 sitting now..... 8 Delawares, 1 turkey, 1 Barred Rock, 1 of my F1 hens, 1 Buff Barred, 1 BCMarans, 1 Wheaten Ameraucana.

I guess I can tell this story here..... it does include a Delaware!

I went out to the layers coop (where I currently have TEN ELEVEN broody hens) to check for any possible hatching. Toni Turkey was making a clucking sound!

So, I looked a little closer........

And then......... I started laughing out loud!

There are 5 or 6 chicks hatched.

I took Toni Turkey out of the nest. Mama Delaware hen immediately covered the remaining eggs. I covered the front of the nest with wire so no one will fall out and so Toni Turkey will stay out. I hate to do this, simply because that IS Toni's nest. She has been on that nest for 3 weeks. I will see what I can do tomorrow.

I am so glad that some have them! I was so reluctant to send any out, because I know they are not "done." However, do to my health issues, I am glad I did send some out! I hope that some day they will be glorious examples of the Delaware breed!

I am doing better. Complications aside, it seems it takes longer to recover than I expected. Old age, I suppose. I am 60 and things are certainly slowing me down. At least I am able to get out and about now! I love being out in the yard and garden.

Glad to hear you are up and running again.
I think Toni is trying to hatch Delaware hens

I heard a wild rumor the other day that Kathy and Mike were winding down the poultry business and going into vegetable farming .
Say it aint so !

And I think you have done well with this new Del line - I posted some pictures on the state thread the other day and got two comments from chicken people.
"THOSE ARE THE BEST DELAWARE I'VE EVER SEEN "
So Kathy you can be proud of the accomplishment.

I'm too far behind to multi-quote. Haven't been online much but want you all to know that I follow all your progress!

Zanna & Tom, I liked your pics. Bert looks a lot cleaner than my Dels.

Zanna, has it been a drought up there, like here, this winter? That may have something to do with the lack of cocci.

Leslie,

I'm sorry that you feel frustrated. You seem determined enough to make progress, however long it takes. I hope that your lone chick is doing well.

Marcy, how many Dels did you hatch? I can't believe you and Tom and Zanna are all finished hatching, already.

Crazyhen & Kathy, I'm sending prayers of good health. It's always good to hear from you both.

Kathy,

your photos! Especially the turkey. I want turkeys some day. I love them.

So envious of all the broodies! I've had ceramic eggs in their nests for months and no interest in being broody at all.

We've hatched about 50 Dels so far. Switching cocks now and hoping for another 50. I plan to keep about a dozen max and want to have a large group to choose from.

No - I not done yet - still have 26 cooking- and switched Cocks and waiting for new Cock [Ernie ]to start fertilizing .
Ernies not bad either except his one wild black/green sickle feather . But he's proud of it LOL

Anybody heard from DelsDels she has this line I believe.
