Delawares from kathyinmo

I think what we are looking for is the silver gene, and I think it supposed to inhibit the brassiness. Correct me if I am wrong. Have you guys ever noticed a difference in the color of the chicks?

I did not notice any colour difference in chicks. Is it possible to have the silver gene from the Barred Rock X NH origination??

OK, I have some very messed up wings even though they look good while the little cockerals are running around. Here are some not so good pics. Hubby helped me but it was after dark with the headlamp tonight and I was doing mite treatment so figured I ought to take a good look at them all. I am still going to give them more time just in case the feathers are still growing in/changing. What do you all think??

Here is the broody raised pullet with the twisted feathers on each side. She is actually not a mutt, she is a full Delaware, no way her dad could have been my hatchery leghorn so dad and mom were Dels.:

Here is my brassy male, still in molt, Dad of the above pullet. He does still have some brassy colour on the saddle feathers so I am thinking he will not be used this year..........

Sorry to bombard this thread with all the pics. but am hoping we can all learn something as I know we are all facing similar issues :) All pics. were taken this evening. Any and all comments would be appreciated!

The funnier ones are how our wings looked a while back. I've been scared to look since. This one bird gave me a show yesterday.

My cockerels are too dirty to tell if their color is off. Before I moved them some had green tinges that I wondered about because people talk about bad "lemon" color in white birds.

As chicks they were all round buff balls of fluff. Indistinguishable.

Yes. From the Barred Rock. In fact, it would have to have been silver birds to start with. Otherwise there would have been red bleeding through. Maybe what I said is wrong. Wouldn't surprise me. I will find out. I want to go to this color next, less the barring.

Top pic wing looks OK - and yes that is what I am seeing - when wings folded some of the primaries hang below coverts

Yes positively the REX syndrome
This is split breast, yes?
Did you feel and make sure thats not a super full crop- because I posted one I thought was split breast and someone suggested to check - sure enough it was a full crop- have not seen any split breast here

six of seven of my cockerels have some brassiness since they have been out in sun all summer- about two had some in beginning but almost all have some now- the one that doesn't has funky wing , squirrel tail and is lanky - can't win can ya LOL - and I add they were all sired by #1 Cock that is not brassy . I see very little brassy in Hens / pullets.
