Ducks as food is one thing but why would anyone chop the wings off 3 ducks? If they wanted meat they'd cut their heads off. Cutting just the wings off is torture pure and simple. I hope you can find out who did it and half of BYC will make a road trip to help stone them.

I need clarification here, did they cut the entire wing off? Or was a hatchet job on trying to clip wings because they thought they might fly away? I'm boggled that someone would do this just to get a few ducks. Do you know of anyone who doesn't like you or has a grudge against you? I just talked to our DARE officer who knows me very well and he says it sounds like a "threat" mutilation. This is when someone is trying to send you a message.
A duck that injured isn't going to walk home, it's going to be brought back or else it was done just out of site in your pasture and then turned loose close to the house. Check the area for the feathers and blood.
This could be very serious.

This is really alarming, on so many levels. The most horrid of which is the terror and probable pain these poor ducks went through and may still be going through. If these few came back without wings, what on earth may have happened to the others?

Whoever did this must be found if at all possible. Where is an animal loving private investigator when you need one?!!!

The lower life forms that did this might be back and I'd be ready. Do you have any one who would be willing to set up some kind of hidden webcam?
The law enforcement folks - doesn't surprise me but certainly disappoints. The trespass angle that was mentioned is a good one - that they do understand.

Aughhh - if I ever caught anybody harming any defenseless innocent little being, I am pretty sure I'd go postal on them, without any hesitation whatsoever.
They must be stopped.

The ducks that came back - do they need med care? Pain killers? Poor things - can ducks without wings even balance in water?

Tough call on what to do here - you have to decide whether to keep quiet in the hopes the evil doers come back so you can catch them (and do whatever you want with them as far as I'm concerned!) OR whether you raise hell publicly in the papers etc. in case this both raises awareness and attention and also wards off a return visit.

I hope that they are somehow caught and prevented from exacting torture on any other living being and that you have no other losses, and that somehow, miraculously, you can find your other missing ducks. Which brings me to wondering, do you think the intruders got to your place on foot or would they have had to drive? If on foot, is it possible to comb the surrounding area to see what you can find?.

I can't imagine the reasoning behind taking the ducks and cutting their wings off...WTH?!

Anyone who goes onto MY property without my permission is trespassing as far as I'm concerned...

Glad the cops were so helpful.

I'd document that you called them and they blew you off. Then I'd take pictures of the poor ducks and call the local news station...yours may not be the only ones who were swiped and tortured and if it was kids, someone might brag that they got on TV.

5 aspirins dissolved in a gallon of water will help their physical pain...I'd keep them close to home now.

Well, if the ducks came back, then they were taken by somebody close enough for them to get back from. You need to walk your property line and see what you can see. Or take an ATV it would probably be easier to get around that much area.

I second going to the news media. Animal cruelty should be taken very seriously. It's becoming more and more known/realized that people who are cruel to animals, are often cruel to people.

Good luck and I hope you are able to get some justice for your ducks.

I'd go with the local TV station. Too bad you didn't take pics before you cleaned them up. But who would have thought to do that? I probably wouldn't have. I'd be sleeping in the afternoon and sitting up waiting for them at night.
