Denied by local humane society:(

This is why I don't go to shelters or rescues. They seem to be too picky! I've been lucky enough to have our dogs and cats just show up at our property and they're the best animals ever!
I wanted to adopt a rabbit from a rescue that we sell hay to and she wouldn't approve us because we wanted to keep the rabbit outside in a hutch. The barn she had them in wasn't even heated. Figure that one out. I tend to think that rescuers are just hoarders sometimes and then they cry wolf about not having homes for the animals. Sorry, just my personal experience with a few of the people we sell to.
We had a dog show up here last summer and I found a rescue who would take him but once they found out it wasn't my dog they said "no." I asked why? They told me because the legal owner had to turn him over. Well, I found the legal owner and he said that he didn't want him anymore so he let him go. It was a guy working on a house on the property next door. He said that the dog didn't seem happy with him so he figured he'd just let him go. He only had him 5 months, had him microchipped, got him from the pound and thats how I found the owner. So needless to say the rescuers that I thought would help, wouldn't do a thing for this animal. I ended up having the owner sign a release form and sign the dog over to another girl who wanted the dog.

Ask family members or friends if they know of anyone who has a dog who needs a good home.

I believe you are right. My sister is one and her main topic of conversation is always how busy she is and how swamped she is taking care of all the animals. She seems to enjoy the stress, and all the attention this garners, and keeps adding to her animals. She is definitely a hoarder, fosters dogs for the shelter, adopts horses, takes home strays, etc.

I, too, have a very cynical view of this whole "love" of the animals. If they loved them would they force them to live in crowded, sunless shelters? If they loved them would they collect so many that they cannot give individual attention to any of them, as there are not that many hours in the day? If they loved them would they deny them to have a real life....any kind of life..besides that cage at the shelter?

I really detest "rescues" in most cases. They are a profit industry consisting of many hoarders and profiteers. Support your local animal shelter (pound), and stay away from rescues. Too many "rescues" care more about the price they sell an animal at and would rather have the animal put down rather than give it to a decent home at a realistic cost. I have seen "rescues" try to sell old, sick dogs for hundreds of dollars then whine then people go to breeders to get healthy, registered puppies. I'm sure there are some good ones out there, but most of the private rescues you see are a cover for hoarders.

Just watching that animal cops show is enough to make you hate them. No private entity should ever be given the right to police the public!

I do think you have a responsibility to your self, your neighbors an the animal your getting to be able to keep it within the boundarys of of your property before you get it. Big acreage to a dog is more than a mile to the property line. Anyone with less should have a fence.

well..the animal police are a totally diifferant matter....those animals are so very abused and neglected....they do a great job!, IMO....but, that is a totally seperate thing than the ding bats in the adoption area....

You watch it long enough an ya might change your mind. Most of what they do on there is good but a lot of the stuff they do is wrong. No cop would dare take a healthy dog away form an old lady because there unhealthy. But there not above using threats to make people think they have to give there animals up when the have done nothing wrong. A political organization should never have police powers.

i just think its sad that people dont respect how many animals they take from sad/sick situations...starving and tied to a chain...mange so bad they haVE no skin left....broken legs gone for weeks with no treatment....theres alot more to it then you see i think.

...but, again...its only my opinion..Peace, Wendy

I tell you...the same thing happened to us!!! We were looking for a replacement cat....drove an hour away, spent time with Ferris....about 1/2 a day, filled out the application...only to be told we were denied because of the possibility of (GET THIS) a possum sodomizing the cat....

THEN...the guy describes in VERY GRAPHIC detail to my 7 year old son what that means!!!!!!! Can you believe that??? We could not get out of there fast enough. I contacted the supervisor...who told me that she hated how he handled it, but I was still denied!!!!!

wow!..what a freak! to say that in front of a kid!...weirdo....yeah, the adoption side of it sucks IMO....they are way to strict with rules for placement....alot of good homes get denied for really dumb reasons....

good and bad, saw one show were they got some gamecocks, said they had to be kill, because they had been train to fight. Know thats not so,and any gamecock can be put with other chickens. just not another gamecock.

Thats one show made me so MAD, never watch them anymore. Kill those nice looking roosters, because they were so DUMB. Worse they was telling this lie to thousands of people.
