(5) What are some of your other hobbies? Photography, Music, woodworking

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

Just purchased a new home with acreage and existing chicken runs/coops. Raised on a small farm with all types of animals and want to get back to it. I want to make sure I start correctly with chickens and this looks like a great place to re-learn old knowledge and gain some new. My children are all grown, with the last graduating college next fall. Married 29 years. I have a golden retriever and Standard poodle. Looking forward to getting started.

Here is my best advice for navigating this forum:

If you have not already, put your location in your profile, not your address or anything but at least your state that will help you get better advice, and speaking of advice....

Almost everyone here is an absolute expert on almost everything imaginable, take me for example I have left advice about freezing temps and I live in Southern California. So take the best and leave the rest.

Once you do get some good advice, and you will, then follow said advice... Example being the guy who burned down his coop after being advised not to use a heat lamp in the coop and then talks about how to place the heat lamp going forward in the new coop....

Stay away from religion and politics, its just not worth it:oops:

Oh, and build BIG, chicken math is real:plbb

Glad you're here Dennis!

A must have for your poultry is a FIRST AID KIT for any issues that would arise.
It's definitely better to have it and not need it rather than need it and not have it.

Also, make sure your coop(s) have a proper amount of VENTILATION. Your chickens will absolutely thank you for it!
