Derperella, the (weird) Faverolles, & Friends

Is Betty a particular named color? I have an Easter egger chick that is feathering out in her exact color/pattern. She's kinda derpy too...

Easter-eggers are just a general name for birds that (probably) carry the blue-egg gene. Since they aren't really a breed (and many of them are mutts), they don't have names for the different colorations they have. I've been told Betty resembles the Wheaten color, but she's more yellowish than the Wheaten birds I've seen. I know she's got some BBS in her as well because she has blue 'splashes', particularly in her tail and wings. When Betty was growing up, though, I called her my Creampuff Easter-egger.

As a side note, I am a firm believer that the genes for Derpishness are somehow connected to the genes for beards. Most of my Easter-eggers have a little bit of the 'Derp' to them.

Actually, I can see that in my flock too....my two EEs and my 3 MFDs, plus my Serama/MFD mutt all are rather derpy!

As a side note, I have noticed that Seramas tend to be absolutely crazed Broodies.

The Serama/MFD mix (Ninja, my profile pic, and below) got all of the crazy, and all of the derpy in one supercharged blend.....

Think mini-dinosaur on steroids!! Here she is stomping around, fluffed up and very mad because another chicken was already in "her" favorite nesting box.....

Hiya Fud Lady and fellow Derpites!

After reading the lovely story about Moa's obsession with keel-scritching, I've decided to try it on my newest batch of Maran's chicks. One in particular, Booberry (she's a blue), is my absolute favorite, and I dearly want her to like interacting with me. I sat her on my lap yesterday, and gave it a go.

Wouldn't you know it, she LOOOVES keel-scritches! The little tyke plopped down and slept on me afterwards!
