Derperella, the (weird) Faverolles, & Friends

I knew an animal artist back in the 70's she was always hoping she'd win the Duck stamp but never did. She ended up doing those "bodice ripper," romantic (?) paperbacks. She did impress upon me how important the Duck stamp was.

Congratulations Fud Lady, I'm sure the Hens and Baron are very proud of you too

I'm sorry that your friend never won. The competition is fierce and every year there are many truly exceptional paintings and artists that enter. Like, mind-blowingly good!!

Congrats Nambroth, I knew you would do it one day. You beat the Hautman brothers !!!
Let me know if you are going to be the Virginia area, I know we have duck hunting hear on the Eastern Shore.
With this win, you will get more advertisement for your paintings and more money coming in. You could add on your chicken coop and get some Marek's disease vaccinated raised cochin hens for Baron. Or ducks, geese or swans and have some water fowl right their to paint.

Now I feel even more privileged than ever to have 3 genuine (if small) Jennifer Miller originals hanging on my wall

(and they are even more special to me now, as I lost my beloved Blackie last week - top chook in my flock and the most lovely, peaceful, calm alpha hen ever - I so hate internal laying

Quote of the week (from Nambroth's blog on how she won the duck stamp competition) :

"I am, in truth, just a strange girl that lives in the woods and carries chickens around."

Now that's a description entirely befitting of Derp's fud lady!

I love it Nambroth, but you shouldn't be so critical of yourself and your work. The other two paintings were magnificent, no doubt about it, but your painting has that something extra that the judges spotted. It is magnificently magnificent, and very deserving of first place!

Well done!
