Derperella, the (weird) Faverolles, & Friends

Not yet, but it can take a long time to correct (months sometimes!). She is still doing otherwise well!
Tell Derp her fans are rooting for her to get better.

We love you Derp.

Hi Derp fans! I was just thinking about you. Derp is doing well... if she is improving, it's too slowly for me to notice. It does seem that she holds her head upright more often but maybe I am being wishful. Monday and Tuesday were exceptionally warm for March days and we had all the chickens out, including Derp. She trundled over to the rooster (backwards, as she does) and preened his lovely tail. Well, he wanted to peck her (she's been away from the flock so long that they feel the 'need' to put her in her place) but he couldn't reach, and he's handicapped too so he was feeling to lazy to get up to do it! I wouldn't have let him, anyhow. Chickens sure can be sassy.

I'll see if I can get some photos soon!

Well that is great news that she is making some progress. I know it's a slow thing. That's funny Derp preening the roosters tail. I would love to see some pics but I know your busy but whenever you get a chance. How many chickens do you have now?

Thanks for the update and give Derp a big hug from me.

I do sincerely think Derperella is improving, it's just very slow! Wry neck problems can be quite slow to heal, no matter what the cause.

Here is a photo of Derp in her most "upright" pose, which she could not do a month ago. She can only hold this pose for a few seconds before her neck and head fall back down and to the side, but it is an improvement. She does this when I talk to her and she wants to look at me! How sweet she is.

Here's here halfway upright pose. She can hold this one perhaps 20 seconds at the most before dropping back to her upside down posture.

Her relaxed posture is still head down and turned back, down at crop level, like in the photos I posted a few weeks ago.

She has gotten very good and finding her way around (mostly by walking backward, because that's the direction her face is pointed when she is relaxed!), and eats and drinks totally on her own. She likes to stay on "her towels" area of the floor, unless she is feeling lonely, and she will wander over to us.

Derp is a strong chicken. She has adapted to her head turning sideways and her neck not supporting her head. Bless her little heart and she has even found a way to feed herself. She is such a sweet chicken. Thank you so much for the update and the beautiful pics of Derp. I love you Derp
