That was the roo in your video, wasn't it?

Yes, sadly the one that lets me pet his face and asks for love is the same roo that is causing so much grief! Gosh we will miss him if things don't work out.

Thank you for satisfying our Derp craving. My husband is hooked on Dear Derperella now. I just happened to have the thread up on the laptop on Monday, and now he is showing people in his office the thread.

BTW, since you mentioned that the 3 hens at the bottom of the pecking order are getting the scabbed combs, I supposed they a are the ones who might do better with an occasional break from the rest of the flock until they heal rather than Mr. Gillin.

I can understand your concern about putting stuff on their wounded combs. I've read that pine tar is primarily a wound treatment that has the added benefit of bad taste: http://www.mcmurrayhatchery.com/pine_tar.html (I found it cheaper at local farm store, and it is kind of messy to use.)

in the mean time you could get him a toy , i read somewhere that roosters play with toys like dogs do when they want to they can use that instead of the hens .....
its only a very mild thought as it was read a while a go and sounded a little funny to me but it could be worth a try if you are really wanting something to work for the lovely boy

If I had not experienced this myself I would not believe it, but it is true in my experience. My own little Serama/OEGB roo did this before we put him in with the mate we selected for him. He kept .....ahem....."assaulting" one of my mini-pin's dog toys. It was just wrong LOL

However, it might be worth a try for someone wanting to distract a roo from bothering the real girls.

I love the latest little Derp adventure there!

Whenever you could, it'd be cool to see more vids of Derp in action.

She really ought to be on Barbara Walter's "Most Fascinating" list. She's certainly on mine!
