I just realize that I live maybe somewhere kinda close to Nambroth! I'm guessing about 100 miles if I were just Derp-ing straight across the state. Or would that be as the Derp stares? not sure...anyway...that just gave me a happy thought that maybe someday or sometime when it's warm if ever I could actually MEET DERP...and the glorious Fud Lady :-D

:weee :celebrate :bun :yiipchick :bun :celebrate :weee

Okay...i better go calm down now..I don't think I can handle this much excitement...

much love to all us Derpatitis infected folk....least I know I'm in a happy group!

:yesss: WOW, that close....I would be herpa-derpie across that 100 miles to see Derp in person, THAT would be cool, she is a real celebrity for sure...:cd

Not sure what "MW'd" means, but if the liquid you mixed the honey with wasn't antibacterial itself, then no it wouldn't destroy those spores. So if you mixed honey with, say, bleach or quaternary ammonium compounds, then sure. It would kill the spores and probably stay antibacterial, depending on how much honey you mixed in. But it wouldn't be any more antibacterial than it already was before you put the honey in.
As far as digestion goes, honey is made of glucose and fructose, which are as simple a sugar as you can get. Table sugar is made of sucrose, which is a slightly more complex sugar - it's actually a molecule of fructose and a molecule of glucose chemically bonded together.
It's not very hard to break that bond. However, I don't know enough about the digestive enzymes of chicks to be able to comment on their ability to break that bond.

MW = microwaved or cooked

Oops! If you are near Hudson, then you're about 300 miles away.... NY is a big state!

Oh Gosh. Well.

I did let the girls out yesterday afternoon and evening. I was so grumpy with how soggy it was in there, even after all my careful work! So I had the Fud Guy watch the girls while I got out shovels, rakes, and about 5 bags of gravel. I dug some drains and filled them with gravel, and fumed that despite being fine though some really terrible squalls and thunderstorms last year... all of the dustbath sand somehow washed away, even though it's elevated and under the dry coop. So I raked and fixed for a few hours. Then I turned the compost pile, which was soggy too, and grumped about the snow killing all my apple blossoms. By the time I was done being cranky at the yard, it was getting dark, and the girls went in for the night.

Doh!

I'll try again today if the sun stays out!

...but! Here is where I've learned something form Derp...I could just be upset and sad about it...or I could go stare at something and be happy. SO! I choose to Derp it and be happy! (though minus the staring...) And Besides 300 human miles is only about 100 Derp miles or so...If she were herpa Derpin all that way counting miles...she'd forget and start over anyway!

I fashioned a foot support for a month old chick with a weak foot. It was cut from the side and bottom of a plastic container. It was stiff but had a little flex. I secured it with duct tape, the side was cut as a thin strip and it was still connected to the bottom part that I cut in shape and configuration of the toes. Do these instructions make sense???

OK, while we are waiting for our next installment of: "Life with Derp" I will tell you a little story about my "special needs" hen Little Missy. She is a banty size Game Fowl / something. I rescued her from horrible conditions, she had lived for over a year in a tiny wire bottom cage with junk for food. She has "bowed legs" / depth perception problems / malformed feet [from the cage--grrr] and her primary feathers don't grow in long enough. Long story short, she cannot fly, roost or walk a straight line. [definitely would flunk the DUI test--hee hee]. BUT she is the sweetest bird in the whole world, the look of innocence on her face when she stares at you will melt steel.
When I first brought her home, she could barely walk and she never groomed herself so was full of wax tubes, ..It took about a week to get rid of all those wax feather tubes, one feather at a time, and because she could not walk her breastbone was RAW, she was so pitiful. She also was afraid of all the other birds at my house so she was in her own tractor cage next to the run.

I have had her about a year now and she is such a happy carefree hen. She just spends her days in the run with the rest of the crew, watching the world and staying out of everyones way. There is a large flower pot on its side that she can "hide" in if she feels the need. She tires easily and spends lots of time snoozing. At night she comes in the house and has her very own "bedroom" a box of all things. She is the best TV buddie I have. LOL
Hope you enjoyed my little story about my special girl.....:love

LOOK what I can do MOM!

Someone hit the "snooze" button....

Missy entertaining in her box.....

Don't worry about me, life is GOOD now.....
