Agreed! Faverolles boys are sweeties and so are silkie roos. If you want someone to watch over your flock I would go with the Fav's though, my silkie roo was sweet, but he couldn't see anything because of the fluff in his face and he wouldn't protect the girls. My friend brought her dog over once who chased my birds all over the place(I wasn't happy about that at all) and the silkie roo was the fastest to run and hide. 'Take the hens, just leave me alone' He wasn't the manliest little guyI think a Salmon Faverolle boy would be a wonderful addition to your flock!!
That said, I have 4 roosters and none are Favs. I have 2 EEs, a bantam cochin, and a light brahma. They are all very nice and good at their jobs, but my favorite by far is my brahma. You just can't beat him. He is always watching out for the girls, he breaks up squabbles, and even though he is huge he is very gentle on the ladies. None of that feather pulling. He will also sit in the doghouse with them when they're laying, whether it's to protect them or to cheer them on I don't know, but he is just the best! I'd consider getting one
Also, I owned a polish roo up until just recently when he passed away but he was not loud. I think I heard him crow maybe 10 times in his whole life. He was 30 weeks when he died but he started crowing at about 12 weeks.
and I totally agree, you will know when you have found the right one....There are SOO many roosters that need homes, it makes me sad that they get pushed aside mainly because of their crowing. Wish I lived closer to ya, I would love to help you find your roo. 
My bantam cochin rooster is the sweetest thing! I thought he would actually be picked on since he is so small, but he tends his own business very well. My NHR hen has been getting feisty with him, getting her knickers in a bunch and going after him. He just stands up on his tip toes and stares her in the face. In my experience, cochin roosters are so sweet and friendly, protective, and great with kids (a must in my family!).
My Roger was NOT a wuss. He was a protector. He took on and beat the crap out of a big RIR cockerel. That poor cockerel was hiding in a corner, traumatized! He also stood guard over his girls and chicks, and after a raccoon raided and killed his hen and 5 of the chicks, he raised the last 3 on his own. Then with the next hen, a white silkie, he had 4 chicks, fostered by other moms, but one of them is a Roger Jr. He's only 3 months old nearly, and he stands guard with while Criptoe is out with her chicks. It is so funny. He's not even crowing yet, but he sure is a manly little guy.... and the silkie roo was the fastest to run and hide. A male duck, with no female ducks around may decide that the chicken hen looks good. Now you will have a dead hen because a male ducks parts are like prongs. A female hen is not built to accept a ducks part, and will become seriously injured inside. A male duck is not a solution. I might be fine for a minute, but it can become a very dangerous situation.
