I think the gene for sweetness in chickens is connected to the gene for feathered feet. My one and only feather-footed bird, Frou-frou the blue splash Marans, is the single sweetest bird I have ever owned OR met OR heard about. If that's the case, Trousers there ought to be super-duper sweet! Speaking of, how is his temperament thus far toward humans?

He's very mellow and friendly. He wasn't "babied" a lot as a chick (like I do with my chicks, eep) so he isn't so sure about being pet, but he doesn't protest when I pick him up, and is very calm around us. He chats with me quite a bit and "shows me treats" whenever I approach, which is sweet of him.. BUT... I will keep an eye on the behavior, because I don't want him to treat me like a hen-- I'm his boss!

I would have named him Pants, but I couldn't call him that after my last roo (named Panic Pants).

I have a bantam cochin roo that like yours wasn't babied- and is THE most trustworthy roo i have ever had, he isn''t crazy about being picked up but will totally relax and put up with being petted, glad he is working out

Since adopting this fellow, I've heard a lot of good things about cochin roosters. I have my fingers crossed! We'll find out at the end of the month.

Moa is going through a molt. You know. One of THOSE molts...
Anyhow, she has always had a particular way of drinking. She will always drink quite a bit in one go, and makes a noise while doing it.
"Gwaaa waaa waaaa waaa waaah"

It makes me laugh so hard!! She's always done this. Maybe it'll be funny to you, too. You might have to turn your volume up or listen hard for her noise.
Derp makes a brief appearance too.

That little noise! I've occasionally heard my girls make a little gurgling 'oww?' sound as they drink, but nothing like that!



Looks like Moa's having the same kind of molt as my girl Debra Jo. It must be a barred Rock thing.
