OPA, what incline do you recommend for the rollout? We'll be building ours soon. We want the eggs to move to the collection area, but gently -- no demolition derby.

I have built several rollout nestboxes since I posted this one. Like everything else with chickens it is a constant learning process. I would recommend that the lower board across the front be increased to a 1x8 and the ramp block be increased to at least 5 inches. This will aid in the egg moving into the collection tray quicker. Don't forget the bumper in the collection tray. As I have previously stated all of the pictures and drawing are a quide but you must check fit and function before permanently attaching all parts. I probably have had at least 50 people ask for these plans and I'm glad to help. If you need further advice email me for my phone # and I will try to help further. I make no claims to know everything but these have worked for me and I'm willing to help.

So, if I've got 11 hens laying in 2 dual nest boxes, some eggs are going to be doubled up on. With a 5x18 rise over run, that's a fast running egg. Won't the eggs crack when the hit each other (and miss the foam pad bumper?)

Anyway, you can see my nest boxes installed, along with my coop here. Pictures of the 2 dual nest boxes at the end. (And please tell people not to use OSB. "Real" plywood worked much better on the second box!)

I am going to build another coop this summer, so I'm all ears!

In my rollaway nest my landing is about 10 inches long and i have a bumper on the end and i have a wood floor and have outdoor carpet on it i rarely have a egg broke and they all roll down. The only reason i made my landing that long was i built one before and only had a landing of 6 inches and i found out that when 6 or 7 hens lay in the same nest the eggs build up and the egg eaters will still get to them and try and peck them if i can ever get the camera going i will try to take some pictures

What slope did you use? Where do you get your inserts? Do eggs roll down that material on their own, or do the chickens need to "jostle" them downslope?
