design for roll away nest box

Thank You for this design. I found this site and join because of it. I moved my hatching egg flock and needed to build a few small nesting boxes. Because I raise eggs for hatching extra care is always good. The idea of a continuous slope with no drop I believe will work for me. I will take that idea and modify it for egg gathering inside the coop. Thank You!!!

Opa, I love your roll-away nest boxes!

Is it still possible to get on your list for plans? Some of my hens really love eggs and I've been trying to find plans for something like this for more than a year with no success. Either way, thank you for posting the pictures.

Did you finally get the issue with emailing your box plans resolved. I would like to have a copy of both box plans. My email is: n5xes at live.com!!

One thing that might be the most critical stat for these boxes. What is the pitch of the rollaway base? Too much will crack the eggs on impact with the rear board and not enough will discourage the eggs from rolling. Also there is the impact of egg against egg to consider. A reading in degrees of angle would be appropriate. What say you?
Thanks,
Neal, the Zooman

Check out Opa's other thread under "new roll out nest design picture heavy edited" too for plans for a six nest box and more details on dimensions.

That being said, his angles are ( I used the right triangle calculator of a google search to calculate his angles) 8.39* , 90* , and 81.61*.
This is for the 6 nest box not this one. His ramp height was 3 1/2" over 24".

Also, On that other thread TheGeekySheep used a 4" ramp, so while I was at it a used the right angle calculator to figure those angles too. 4" over 24" (that's the ramp length) equals angles of 9.46*, 90*, and 80.54.

Hope that helps.

Regardless of the angles, like Opa said, you might not want to glue and or nail until you test and adjust. Remember too, the eggs will roll differently with padding, which you need.
