Designer Dogs

I understand what you are saying here but disagree that its simple vanity to get a purebred dog unless its for something other than a pet. Dogs became breeds because of specific needs of people and specifically bred for those special traits that fit out needs. Some people might want a pet dog but specific temperament or physical characteristcs of one breed might be the only dog suitable. Think of the Yorkie terrier, someone might want a tiny dog because they live in an apartment but also might need the dog to have the fiesty temperament of the small terrier. Would a mix fit that bill? Sure, it might. But stack the odds in your favor by getting breed that is suppose to have that specific trait or traits that fit your need.

All the more reason why the dog being bred should be purebred so that the characteristics are more reliable.

Even purebred dogs end up euthanized at humane societies so whatever we can do to minimize this is the responsible thing to do.

I have a new and exclusive breed...Boxadane!

Seriously though, she's the best dog I've ever had. Intelligent, cuddly, awesome stamina, hunting sense, and strength. I just adore her disposition

I seriously wouldn't mind getting offspring from her either, it's just a matter of finding the right baby daddy.

She gets HUGE butt muscles when we do agility training. Her coat is pretty much waterproof too, and adores swimming and taking baths.

I've been around Great Danes before (her momma) and their wonderful family dogs. Sensitive and intelligent, but also huge and lazy. Also met several Boxers (her daddy). Again, intelligent, sensitive, but also more active. My girl combines the best of both breeds it seems. She has the body type of the Dane, big paws, deep chest, slim hip, nice legs, long (hard) tail with the energy and spunkiness of the Boxer. She's sensitive but not overly so, and quite brave. Adores people.
Plus she has a lot better muscle type than a Dane, but is bigger than a Boxer but not AS big as a Dane.

Sometimes, you gotta make a mutt to get the best of both worlds

THIS. Cannot be said enough. And it happens in purebreds, too, even nice "show line" purebreds who are supposed to be all perfectly planned and consistent. I see it all the time in my own favorite breed, and I KNOW it can't be a one-breed problem. Human egos are as likely to make someone lie as money is. Papers don't buy you consistency, health and temperament testing does. Actually knowing the ancestry of the dogs and picking parents that match and balance each others' traits does. I don't care if you're looking at doodles or the latest Westminster BIS, if you buy from anyone who does any less than this, you are taking a big risk.

Yep, and there's no lack of them in shelters, waiting for homes.

I understand they make for heatlhier dogs as the gene pool is larger. Also, I have found...better temperaments as well IMHO. It's actually the way we got our Labs, Yorkies, Poodles, etc.

And I believe some people really love the temperments of two different pure breed dogs, I suppose.

The gal at the Goodwill drop off yeasterday told me and husband that her sister had a nonsense and english bulldog and they had puppies, so yes she has a Bull (I won't even type it cause I know they'll edit it!) Dog! LOL!

ETA - she also said it looks like a really small saint bernard.
