The Pharaoh is not for everyone but they are a very unique breed. They have a lot of natural instinct and still do a lot of the primitave behavior. But absolutely stunning to see on the street. And very rare. Well protected by the breeders.

Primitive behavior... as in wild canine behavior?

To some degree, yes. They still regurgitate food for their young, they do things unique to the breed...blush, curl their tongues when they yawn, all kinds of cool things....

Interesting.... my dogs all regurgitated food for their pups... curl the tongue as in inward/upward? I have a couple that do that too... so that being said, mine are closer to and have wolf in their heritage, which explains why mine do it. So the Pharaohs are from Malay, what wild canines are there that they are descended from?

They are the official dog of Malta (an Island off the coast of Italy) and one theory is that they were brought over from Egypt to Malta where the Maltese farmers developed their rabbit hunting skills. They have EXTREMELY HIGH prey drive and are super fast and agile. A fence is a must with this breed. The tongue is very thin and makes a complete curl on yawn in the mouth. Hard to describe, but cool to see. My female will go down in history as the top producer in the breed, having produced 23 top AKC champions for the breed.

And so why are there no pics here?? lol

They do sound like a cool breed and they only place I've seen them is in dog shows on TV... I don't think they'd fare well in Alaska unless strictly a house dog!
