Designing a new incubator... Any input and advice will be greatly appreciated!

Don't forget that heat rises! So for air to heat, it also thins out and floats on top. So don't forget that fans need to face down. They need to be placed at the top to circulate air down to the bottom. You can look at my profile. I built my own a while back with a 95% hatch rate. I now have others that I bought, because building more, I was not feeling up to. But, I still use it and it works great. I have 42 serama eggs in it now, within an egg turner and they are doing fine. A well-built incubator will give you years of service, and even grows in value with it's own success. Goodluck.

Wow, that looks really nice... I'm so jealous!

Thanks for the advice.

Will definitely keep that in mind. I am mounting the fan at the top, but will angle it so it faces downward slightly. Should help, right?

You shouldn't have to angle yours down. The incubator I built was made out of a cabinet, so it was a lot bigger. That one should be fine without angling yours down. The fan is plenty big enough for the amount of space being used to incubate. It looks great. Keep up the good work.

My fan is in the top where you can't see it. The water pan is under the hardware cloth cage on the left of the bottom picture. Mine was built to function, with a little ergonomics built in for the wife, so she would allow me to keep it inside the house....lol

We have the box finished, without doors or a divider, but hopefully everything will work better tomorrow... Today everything just went wrong.

Will post pics tomorrow.

Haha yeah it's gotta look good to be in the house, though ours kinda looks crappy after a good hammering to try and get it straight... Still gotta go in the house though, we don't have a barn or a garage or any other place it could go.

No work done on the incubator today.

I have decided to not rush it, my husband was working again today and too tired to help with the things I cannot do (use the grinder, or bend the metal...) I will have to use my small cooler box incubator for the NYD hatch-a-long, and then complete this one when hubby feels up to it. It doesn't help he works on it when he doesn't feel like it, it won't come out anything like it should! I will post updates though! Early next year it should be finished, and then I will set some of my Blue Orpingtons' eggs.

That is probably for the best. I will still be watching for updates and will be eager to see it finished.
