Desperate for free candy much?

Yeah, but at that age, he should be in college and trick-or-treating for shots!

Halloween traditionally was an adult holiday,...somewhere along the line the kids took over. You know back when the used to send the Halloween postcards and such,...they are so cute and are highly collectible now.

Our entire town turns out for most every holiday and then some. For the St. Patrick's Day parade, Dare Days (a local special day/weekend), July 4th, the local high school homecoming parade through the town, Halloween, the Outer Banks Marathon on the first weekend in November, the lighting of the town for Christmas, New Years Eve night, and for every first Friday of the Month from May through October our downtown is like one big block party. The streets are closed to traffic, bleachers are set up in the street and in front of the old court house a stage is set up for a local band. The shop owners serve food and drinks and everyone has a GREAT time. On the 4th of July there is a 30 minute fireworks show with live music. On New Years Eve the town splurges and puts up a HUGE tent and has entertainment, they build a big fire pit in the middle of the street with cinder blocks and provide marshmallows and hot chocolate. One year they even served black-eyed-peas.

Tonight being Halloween the police (all 6 of them including the chief) walk the streets giving away glow sticks. One of the ladies that lives downtown projects a movie onto the building across the street every year. This year was The Birds. One of the churches has a carnival with a special area for the parents. They served us cookies, coffee and Brunswick stew tonight. Everyone goes trick-or-treating, even the big kids. There were just as many adults in costume as there were kids. Anyone who lives downtown and doesn't want to participate shuts their door and turns off their porch light. I only saw a few of those and it was probably because they were handing out candy at their neighbor's house. One year one of our neighbors built a fun-house maze in his yard. It took 3 days and a crew of 6 men to build it. It was awesome!

I LOVE LIVING HERE!!!

Again, HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYONE

^ I know! That sounds like Mayberry... I wanna live there!!!!!

Funny you say that, Andy Griffith and his wife, Cyndi, live here. REALLY! Their house is just outside the downtown area though. Very nice people.

It has been years and years since I've been to the Outer Banks. Sad since I've lived in NC my entire life!

Tell Andy "hello" for me.

We cut it off at 6th grade too. In 6th grade at our house, you can dress in a non-scary costume & hand out the treats.
Many of the older kids dress in costumes that are too inappropriate and scary for little kids to see. A couple of years back, a group of teenagers showed up at 5:30 while we were still eating dinner. One was dressed as a fat stripper, pasties and all. My 4 year old at the time asked a lot of questions. I asked him to answer them for her, but he declined.
