Desperate Help Needed

If it's any comfort, a lot of chicken diseases aren't transmissible to humans. If you have a good mask (N95) you could wear that, and just practice basic hygiene. Wash your hands. Take a shower if you feel like you need it.

But anyway, if she's still mobile enough to avoid capture she'll probably make it until morning/there's probably not a lot you can do for her in one night anyway. *hugs* Stay strong.

It might be easier to catch her tonight though so you're not rushing to do it before the vet visit. Very stressful to try and catch a chicken that doesn't want to be caught when you're trying to be punctual, lol.
Thank you so much for both responding! We are going to mask up and put on some gloves, and isolate her in a laundry basket for the night. I sounds a bit cruel, but she’s not really moving much anyway. We will take her to the vet tomorrow morning.

Another question I have, is it still safe to eat their eggs, if one has a respiratory illness, and the others are at risk of having it?

I think that sounds good. It'll do her some good to have a peaceful/safe spot to spend the night, and in the morning all you have to do is grab the basket and you'll be good to go. :thumbsup
And don't feel like you're being cruel. It's not going to hurt her. I'd put a nice soft towel in there for her to sit on and put her somewhere dark and quiet. She'll go right to sleep.

As for the eggs I'm not totally sure since we don't know what's wrong. Personally I'd toss 'em just to be safe. And DEFINITELY don't eat them if the vet puts her on antibiotics. They should tell you the egg withdrawal time at the vet (and here at least it is printed on the Rx label. Not sure if it's the same in AU).

Please do feed her water mixed with olive oil,it helps reducing breathing problems,u may also try gently rubbing her neck and caressing her feet to calm her down.

And when you pick her up/hold her, make sure she's snug against your chest. That'll keep her from feeling like she's falling and she won't flap as much. If you hold her out in the air she's going to flap all around because she thinks she's falling down.

A hen’s respiratory disease can be transmitted into her eggs,I won’t reccomend it safe to eat her eggs until further is known from the vet.

Another question,
Does she seem like she has asthma?if so the condition may get worse with time, leading to unnaturally frequent gasping.chronic respiratory disease and asthma are most usual diseases in poultry, this can happen due to dusty bedding, pine shavings as a bedding are OK,but make sure to dispose of the dusty side if there.

Put some ACV in her water. May do her some good. It is antibacterial so good luck!

Hello everyone,

Thank you so so much for responding and helping. With gave her a bit of olive oil last night, and for a little while, she sounded better! She wasn’t as rattly and didn’t sound as raspy.
However, we’ve gone to bed last night, and woken up early to check on her. Unfortunately she’s passed away over night.

Thank you all so much for your help anyway
