hello chicken friends,
it is with sadness that I let you know my sweet Lovie passed away last week. She was doing so well and I thought for sure we had this! She unfortunately started to take a turn in the wrong direction, and once again was kind of hanging out in the background...not being herself. I separated her again, continued the antibiotics, but she just got lighter and weaker :( Her belly never swelled up again, she was the complete opposite really, weighed barely anything when I picked her up. I could see in her eyes she was ready to stop the fight. I made her a really cozy straw "nest", tucked her in and said my goodbye's. I knew she would not be with us in the morning, and when I went to the coop, she hadn't moved a muscle. She peacefully put her head down and never woke up. It was heartbreaking but at least not traumatic. My kids even handled her passing really well. I think we were prepared and felt better that she was comfortable and not breathing heavy or unable to walk.
thank you all for your support!! Hopefully the next post I have is a happier one!!

So sorry for your loss. You did all you could for her. Sometimes the kindest thing we can do is make them comfortable and let their spirits fly free.

I'm so sorry you lost Lovie. You truly did everything you could, she knew you cared all the way to the very end.

I am so glad you had the opportunity to get more quality time with her. Her and my Boofy girl are now taking dust baths and eating a buffet of mealworms together!

Thanks for the update...Warm hugs sent your way!
