Detached Air Cell Chick Deformity?

Well, he made it this far but does not appear to be particularly interested in eating. He makes half hearted attempts at pecking and then goes back under the brooder lamp to sleep. His behavior is otherwise normal so it could be that he just is not hungry yet. I have seen bantams pecking at egg shells just a couple of hours old while some of the larger breeds do not show much interest in eating until the third day.

My thought...and I am by no means an expert...the eye is one of the first structures to develop and is the largest of the strutures in the early embryo. His eyes should have developed before the airspace would have been a factor. So, I would expect that if he had an eye to begin with, there would be more evidence of it Also, the wing is very short in the early embryo and wouldn't have been able to reach the eye area to well after the eye had developed

The late embryo tucks its beak under its wing with the wing nestled next to the head, maybe when taking this position, since there was no eye there, the wing got stuck in what should have been the eye area.

I hope he works out! We had a one-eyed bunny named Uno...just a thought
