So I hear about detached air cells in shipped eggs, but never seen any pics showing what on earth they are talking about. Anyone have a picture?

Im afaid not but have had them

On candling the liquid contents of the eggs can freely 'swish' into the air cell when the eggs are tilted/moved. As the air cell membrane has ruptured fluid can mix with the air cell when moved on candling. In severe cases there can be bubbles within the egg which have escaped from the air cell.

Hope that helps

What about when you see the air cell move as you rotate the egg? Not liquid penetrating the air cell... That would be detached as well, right?

The air cell provides a seal between the egg contents and the air sac. It should not move about!

Bummer... I knew as much... One of my Barnies is detached - good thing I have 9 more

I'm still going to give it a shot though. It doesn't always mean it won't hatch.

If you suspect detached air cells then..................

Incubate vertically for at least the first 10 days then the embryo's own membranes will grow to create a new seal

Suceeded using this method in hatching 5 out of 9 with detached air sacs.

Good luck - Pete
