Detached air cell question

I let my eggs sit for over 24 hours, small end down, to try to stabilize the air cells before I set them under my mama hen, but it didn't do any good. 24 hours isn't nearly long enough to stabilize them, apparently. But I've only had experience with it one time, with a broody hen.

Jossanne,
THANKS for the experienced comment on the air-sac problem. It is something that I have not experienced.....but I will keep the problem in mind. APPARENTLY, it is a result of "rough handling".

Hi!
I've never had an egg that arrived with a wobbly air cell hatch here --- I've never
set the eggs and not turn them for 3 days

, though. I will try that next time.
If someone got a box of eggs from here that had all wobbly air cells, I would replace them for shipping and handling --- no question.
I like when folks that get eggs from here candle before they set the eggs --- just so I know how they travelled.
If they didn't travel well, they can't grow or hatch well.
All that to say...
I don't think you are obligated to replace the eggs. You aren't responsible for how the PO bonked the eggs in transit.
Offering more eggs for S&H would be a nice thing to do.

I got eggs from a fellow BYC'er. They were exquisitely packed. He had marked the package CALL XXX XXX XXXX (my phone number) ON ARRIVAL. That way, they didn't sit in the hot mail truck. I have started asking all shippers to do that, and if they send me a message "oops, I forgot" I call the post office and ask them to notify me to pick them up when they come in -- they are REALLY good about that here. The particular eggs I mentioned came in one of those cellulose board mail bins the post office uses. The eggs were packed in their box inside the bin, and the bin was cross taped on top with a sign that said "FRAGILE...HATCHING EGGS....HANDLE WITH CARE" I assume the seller did that, it was a photocopied sheet. Wow....and the eggs arrived from the west coast to Virginia in only 2 days by priority mail. I'm expecting a great hatch from them -- and if I ever ship eggs, I will try to do the same thing! Other eggs have just come in the little shipping boxes...
