Detailed incubation records

When I hatched my Ayam Cemanis, I just kept track of temperature and humidity.

What would be interesting is if you continued collecting data about the birds after they hatch, and then compared that with the data collected during incubation, to see if the data collected during incubation can be used to predict traits of the birds after they hatch, like health, size, growth rate, etc.

Also, take a look at this paper: https://pdfs.semanticscholar.org/62b0/6dcd5d58bb1c5dac46c62f15f5b6a1467f98.pdf

What I'd be primarily interested in is to see if characteristics measured during incubation correlate with the overall development of the chicken after hatching. Maybe create some tests like like mazes, or take two cups and put a treat under one cup, mix up the cups, and then show that one cup is empty, and see if the bird figures out that the treat is under the other cup. I know the cup test has been done with parrots, but I'm not sure if it's been done with chickens.

My suspicion is that the birds that were larger during incubation and at hatch would perform better on the tests, but I don't think it's been tested.

Great ideas...and I think I can incorporate some of these with my next batch of my own eggs a nice they will be laid by known birds.

These current eggs are shipped so I'm not starting with enough details since I just don't know.
Does that makes sense?

Yeah, it makes sense. I also wonder about the heritability of such traits. Chickens are intelligent, but I don't think there's as much research pertaining to their cognition as there is with other birds, like parrots, crows, etc.

There is a show on Netflix called Bird Brain.
Have you seen it yet?
