I want to know how about do you determine whether a chick is a or b grade

From the hatcheries here in South africa there's ways people determine where it's an A grade or B grade

For the chicks or eggs? In the U.S, grades a determined by egg size and clarity. Not sure how one would go about grading chicks.

Do you have a link you could give us to show what you are talking about? I'm totally unfamiliar with that system. I tried finding that online and was not happy with my results.

Can you contact the hatchery and ask them?

For example I can remember a hatchery named keystone in sa who said if I'm not mistaken by the bottom the last part to develop must be sealed properly

How to grade for A-Grade Chicks:

Stand tall/upright

Clear, bright eyes

Clean, well-healed navel

Dry body

Boody Temperature at the vent 35.5°C

Good feather covering

Colour – not pale chicks

Feet properly formed

Legs clean, no red hocks

Few defects – toes, legs, beaks, etc

Infection free – yolk sac, omphalitis

A happy chirp

Fairly even wing feather growth throughout all the chicks

Minimal growth on the primary feathers

Normal belly without bloating

Well developed legs, skin that is soft and well hydrated

No black navel

No stringy navel

How to grade for B- Grade Chicks

Mass under 35g

Debris on feathers

Dirty Navel

Deformity

Cross beak

Vein Protruding in Leg

Bulging eye

Fluid filled abdomen

Curled feet

Damaged Feet

Bald Spot

Spread legs

Bent back head

Extra Appendage
