Yes, it was a small black bear. Only type we have in Virginia. Probably a first time mother with the single cub.

She took off really fast when she saw DH. So hopefully she will stay away. We have been making a lot of noise building this coop. We have bear spray, guns, and a big dog. We saw four deer today on the way home from getting groceries. Lots of deer tracks down by the river.
