We candled our eggs today that are on day 18, and marked the air pockets. While we were looking at the eggs and picking out the none viable ones we noticed something very strange. It appears that about 3-4 of our 17 eggs are several days behind the others or very very small. At first we thought they were dead because they are so small compared to the others. But after we noticed one of them moving a great deal we checked them again. These chicks are very small but you can see them moving and see the blood vessels in them clearly. Is it possible for these eggs to be behind the others or vary small? These eggs were all placed in the incubator at the same time and have had the same conditions as the others.

Any Ideas???????????????????????

That very well may be the issue. In still air the heat doesn't always distribute evenly, making hotter and cooler spots in the bator. Without a fan to circulate the air conditions may vary from area to area. The slower eggs might have been in cooler spots.

So how far behind could they be? And will they still hatch right just take more time?
