Developing the grass in your yard for increasing free ranging nutrition

I've been conspicuously quiet here because the purchasing department here (cough cough) produced more excuses than seeds. Yesterday, supposedly, the head of purchasing (cough) headed out to "pick up clover seed."

I dispair. But ... yay! seeds! maybe.

Perhaps there is someone "higher" that you can appeal to that is "above" the purchasing department.....

The power structure here has been streamlined down to just the two staffers. I've thought about calling 911 a time or two, but it would be a tad too crazy for me (yes, even me) to tell the dispatcher, "Emergency! I can't get Dad to plant the clover!"

Le sigh.

For whatever reason my google search abilities are netting about ZERO for finding seed suppliers. I did check locally and the old country store that is no more was replaced by and up and coming, and totally lacks seed material. SO I"m limited to online ressources.

I found a couple, but all seem wicked expensive-- maybe clover is just that . . expensive.

FOr now a mix of ryegrasses etc is going down to fill in the endless barespots. Rains due Saturday!

Kinda why I leave the seed sourcing to the purchasing department. We buy lots of grass seeds for landscaping and rye etc. for cover crops, and they grow clover in Oregon, so there should be some way to connect ...

Seed is "expensive," but a little goes a long way.

Arielle, try Hummert International.
You can get feed plot seed in bulk for WAAY cheaper than most online sources. Luckily I have the headquarters about 20 minutes from my house. I bought 20 lbs. of Ladino white clover for $20. White Dutch is the same price. They have 50 lbs. for 160. Much cheaper than buying by the one ounce scoop at the local feed store.
They have 5 pounds of chicory for 7.50, Egyptian wheat sorghum for 11, Japanese millet for 8.
I bought seven top turnip (forage type) for $17 for 5 lbs. I found 2 sources online. One wanted $1.50 for 1 gram, the other wanted 1.90 for 1/2 gram.

Is there an online source for this place? Those prices are great and hopefully, shipping wouldn't be a bear and I could actually get some out here!
