Development of eggs.

I have a broody hen, I have allowed her to sit on 4 eggs, all are developing from what I can tell. In the last 2 days I did not check the eggs, but apparently my 6 and 8 yr old gave her more eggs to sit on between the two days. I candles them all and either see nothing in them or just a yolk. No veins or a dark spot. Two of them have air pocket forming in the bottom, or so it appears. My question is, Is it too late to take them from her for eating?

Take them now and feed them back to the animals if you don't wanna risk it yourself.

Maybe explain to the kids that adding eggs could cause the others to dies when the mama ditches the unhatched ones to feed those that already hatched... or doesn't ditch the unhatched ones and lets the already hatched starve (in nature).

Air pockets will form in all eggs, incubated or not. :) Size usually varies according to age of the egg.

Thanks, I will definitely be talking to them this afternoon. Unfortunately I am a manager in retail and I'm not always home in the evening when they are here, so I guess they thought if they snuck a few under her, we could have more chicks. They have been removed, I am going to let my dogs have them! They love eggs too!

Your post just made me LOL!:lau I have a six year old who has been very impatiently waiting for our hen to “brood” so she can have babies. Well, she finally did and she has 9 eggs. I hope! I can totally see him doing the same thing! Kids are almost as cute as chickens I swear ;):gig
