DH has come over to the dark side!!!

One of our 16 wk old pullets got into a scrap with our dog, and DH and I took her to the 911 vet 20 miles away! DH said she has a right to proper medical attention . . . $342 later. DH says Sophie will have to lay 136.8 dozen eggs to make up for her vet bill. Glad DH has come over to the dark side too.

Oh she'll make that up in no time! lol. This was our first year with chickens as well. Started with 6, and now I'm making plans to order another batch of chicks to fill the 2nd coop I just built. I haven't gotten a NO! from the hubby yet...

What about the dog? Doesn't it have to come up with half the vet bill? Hay, I mean scratch, fair is fair.

Sounds like Sophie and her friends can pay off half that vet bill in less than a year. No Sweat, I mean get the dust bath spa ready.

What ever is the Dog going to do to come up with its half, though? Chase off Hawks, hopefully.

And yes its real easy to have 100 chickens running around, when you start hatching. Of various ages, and not even realize it until the neighbor asks, how many do you have and you start counting the various ages. Time to act.

Be carefull, people, be very careful. You could find yourselves covered in fluff when you didn't mean to. Been there, done that.

You are all so lucky! DH means husband, right? My boyfriend (BF?) is a hard sale. In fact he says if I move in with him we are not going to have a "menagerie" and my chickens aren't welcome!

He has two dogs and a cat and I have one dog and three cats plus a couple mice, fish, and my chickens. That's not a menagerie (yet) is it?! I mean for it to be a real menagerie wouldn't we have to throw in some hoofed critters? (I have been lusting for donkeys

My DD's hubby swore he'd have dogs in the house before he'd get married. And there would never be a dog in the house. And no animals.
They now have: 1 dog in the house; 2 goats;2 horses; 7 beef cows; 3 dairy heifers;at least a dozen banties and a baby boy-- all in two years.
I think he loves my DD:)
Tempest, maybe you should rethink the BF?

buildingmyark once I finally talked to him about the new pullets I wanted I was surprised at how easily he agreed to it. He even offered to give me the money for the chickens after I bought the coop. I have been really surprised at how quickly he has been "assimilated" into the additction.

Resistance is futile!

The really funny thing was the discussion about hatching. He was the one that brought it up and suggested trying to hatch some next spring. It is already starting to get chilly at night here so I want to wait till then. Of course this leaves all winter to get all the supplies I will need plus the bator.

I am glad that he was the one that brought it up, now I don't have to figure out a way to get the stuff in the house and hide it. I am surprised at how fast I fell into the addiction. I just have so much fun watching them and got the roo to eat out of my hand which I thought was soooo cool. My daughter is coming up to visit this weekend and I can't wait for her to see the chicks. Of course she will probably be much more interested in riding her horse but maybe I can assimilate her too!

ETA- new2chooks I thought I was going to be the crazy horse lady once I got up to five but so far I have been able to resist the temptation of another. Chickens may be another matter though. They are more like potato chips to me, can't have just one!

Sophie was the instigator in the incident with Keira (the dog). Sophie likes to chase Keira and then give her the evil eye. Keira had enough, grabbed Sophie by the neck and shook her good. So Sophie is on the hook for her entire vet bill. All is well on the farm tho. Sophie just had her last meds today and is no longer my "house chicken."
