Yes, the BF is "on notice" for his chicken bashing and a long string of far worse offenses. Anyhow, I told him he can't love just parts of me, I'm a package deal!

I count myself as lucky then. DH may not "love" the chickens but he does care about them. I caught him watching my original four out free ranging the other day. They were running around, chasing grasshoppers and munching on the grass.

Even he appreciates chickens being chickens. He puts up with my "menagerie" and gained a new respect for how much work it is to take care of them. I went out of town for a weekend a couple of weeks ago and he took care of the animals. All this time he thought I was out messing around with the horses when we get home from work and doing the chores. He learned that weekend that it does take as long as I am out there. He knows how well I take care of them now.

Having all of my animals has made moving from the area that I love to Utah much more enjoyable especially since we finally have the land to have them all at home. I love my little "farm" but there will be no goats!

My boyfriend is great with everything and thats why we keep him

. He knew what he was in for when he met me, plus he is a country boy. We picked out our first 4 ducks together from Orshelins and it just went crazy from there lol, I got my first bator 2 years ago after I realized you could get eggs shipped to you. Every time someone is starting to pip he is the first one to come in and wake me up to tell me about it-he starts acting like a kid watching over them all and worrying lol. I have had so many texts when Im out with the updates of what egg is doing what- I love it. He builds everything I need too for all my animals. I use to get nervous with each batch of eggs I got delivered but now he is the one who is exciting when a box arrives and ask me what I got and how long will it take to hatch etc. He just loves my Seramas and talks with my roo Charlie all the time. We have a few Silkies and D'Uccles too that we adore but both our favorites are the Call Ducks-we have both spoiled them so rotten and they have trained us so well

-oh yeah did I mention this started with 4 baby ducks lol. I do give some of my hatchings to all my friends kids who do 4H and I sell a few to other people who I know will love them-thats why I pick the breeds I do-they are PETS lol. And ought oh we just found out that we are allowed to have a Mini horse-I mentioned this to neighbors and they beat me too it and now we have a couple regular horses, and some ponies on the block-we all have around an acre or more so county said no problem but just 1 per acre. I think we need more land if this economy ever picks up but at least we get to live some what the way we want here

I can't wait for DH to start building the new coop. I have already started "pushing" for one a little bigger than what he was planning on building.

Just thinking if we build it for just the ones we have now, we will have to build again next spring when I hopefully start hatching some of the eggs (remember it was his idea to try that!

) Yup I am totally lost to the addiction! Can't wait to see how he is about the chicks. He was so funny when I got the first four. They were already a month old so they weren't fuzzy any more but he thought it was totally cool to hold one. He had never held a bird before in his life. City folk, what are you gonna do with them??

In my experience, they all come around eventually!

I managed to involve my whole family when we started out with 5 chicks - as we each got a chick to name and call our own. This means everyone has to help look after them. My DH was a bit reluctant at first but now he orders dried mealworms online and feeds them as treats to the chickens (who are now 3 years old) and always makes sure that "his" chicken gets the lion's share - it is so funny to watch him favouring her and shooing the others away. She is also the only one allowed to sit on his lap!

For any reluctant other half - I suggest giving one of the flock to them, especially when a baby, so they are responsible from day one!

Now "we" have ducks too - see how well this works

Also, when they taste the difference between home-grown eggs and shop-bought eggs, they will never think your "hobby" is a waste of time ever again!

Never mind lingerie, say it with an omelette!
