Hope he gets a job soon. My dad is still looking since his 2 days before Thanksgiving lay-off. Like they couldn't wait a few extra days!? We ended up in IA because the NE company he worked for went under. I know it will get better. It's just a matter of time. If we can figure out a way to do it for tax purposes me and him might go into a farm/chicken/sheep/goat business together.

There's jobs out there if you look for em, but they may be harder manual work for lower pay then what you're used to. In IA, Tyson is always hiring, and my husband's company Vista usually is too. In IL, Farmland always hiring. All those start at $10+ an hour, but you will have to work for it.
