I have 4 laying hens; 2 are 20 months old and two are about 5 years old. The past two mornings in a row I have noticed what appears to be a broken yolk, no shell of any kind, no white and a small amount of bright red blood in the same area right where they approach their roost. I have examined all 4 hens carefully and can find no problems or evidence of which of them might be doing this. All seem fine. They're housed in a 6 x 12 chain link enclosure with a small house for laying. They adopted the top of the house for roosting. The area is cleaned daily and their water is cleaned every other day. They are eating Layena and receive Purina scratch each morning. They free range in the yard for a period each day.
So, my question is.....Is one of my hens sick? I don't know what I should be looking for. Any information is appreciated.
Thank you.
