Diamond dove or Cockatiel?

I have a female cockatiel and she’s pretty quiet unless I intentionally get her to be loud, by playing cockatiels singing on YouTube. Or when I get home she’ll have her contact call but once I greet her and take her out the quiets down pretty quick, I tend to leave her cage open when I get home and that makes her happy, but it’s the top of the cage I leave open so she’ll feel as if she’s free. I keep her wings clipped since I take her outside with me a lot, she’s very tame and she’s a cinnamon pearl, pearl females tend to keep pealing while males loose the pearling ( from what I learned), never had a diamond dove but my cockatiel is relatively quiet most of the time and enjoys just being out the cage around me or on my shoulder most of the time, but she sure loves her head scratches. :)

If you want quiet, Diamond doves are very pleasant and easy to care for. I absolutely love them, they are precious, however, be sure to get a pair, doves can easily get lonely and need companionship; best of luck.

I am home most of the time would it be okay to get just one?

"I actually have a pretty large cage (24 x 17 inches and 34 inches tall)"

By the way, this cage would be much more appropriate for a cockatiel than a diamond dove. Cockatiels are hookbills and can climb and utilize the cage to the fullest and would benefit from you being home most of the time more than a diamond dove. Diamond doves require cages that are longer than they are tall in order to provide them with the exercise and ability to navigate their environment. They tend to ricochet off the side s of smaller cages in a very panicked manner, but in larger cages are much calmer. I don't breed them in anything smaller than an HQ Single Flight cage and prefer to keep them in double flights.

Diamond doves are stupid and panicky and terrified of humans, and make terrible cage birds. Only keep them if you have an aviary and want something pretty to fill it.

They're beautiful but they just do not do well in cages or as single pets.

Agreed. Although I will say mine were raised in a bird room versus an outdoor aviary. The birds my pairs produced were sought after by people in the area that showed because they were calmer. Being raised in an enclosed room with a lot of human contact as I spent a lot of time in there acclimated them to being in close quarters with people. Aviary raised birds were much more flighty and showed poorly due to their behavior.
