Have any of you checked your chicken's crop? I had one die on me a few weeks ago. When I told my vet what the symptoms were, he thought it might be sour crop possibly brought on by an impacted crop. Her poo smelled really bad and she also had a bad odor from her beak. Her crop felt full and squishy, she didn't eat much and was very skinny.
I have another one in the house now. We noticed that her comb was floppy and pale. At first I thought she was eggbound, since she hadn't laid an egg in a couple of days.
I brought her in the house and noticed loose smelly poop on her rear feathers. Her crop is full and she doesn't eat much. And I don't feel an egg.
My vet is not in till thursday (I made an appointment), till then, I'm keeping her in the house. I've given her parakeet grit, yogurt and fortified water. The parakeet grit contains charcoal among other things.
This evening she is also beginning to look jaudiced, so I am force feeding her fortified water. I think she is getting dehydrated, since she is pooping primarily liquid and I don't see her drinking. She has taken some yougurt earlier today.
I just don't want to loose another one.
