I have a 1+ year old EE that stopped laying about 2 weeks ago. She's been having bad diarrhea with no other symptoms whatsoever. Her vent isn't dirty at all which is odd since she when she does poo, it's literally like a bomb going off. Her poo looks like the watery one on this site:

I have looked at it for worms, but I see nothing.

Any idea as to what may be going on? I haven't changed anything in their diet. I have recently added food grade D.E. to their coop and run. IF it is worms, will the D.E that they ingest from scratching around in their run treat them for worms?

Check her crop. Just below the breast bone and to the right. If it is hard... it's crop bound. It could be sour crop too. Is her breath bad? I mean.. do you notice a foul odor around her beak? Fix it fast. My rooster died from being crop bound... I didn't know what it was until it was too late. There's lots of info on the internet about crops sour and bound. Just FYI.

Nope...crop not hard and breath smells fine. I just checked her over again really well. Vent is clear, stomach not hard, crop not hard, no foul odor, eating just fine....

She seems perfectly healthy except for the diarrhea and not laying eggs.

Is there a veterinarian handy that can put the poo under a scope and check for parasitic eggs? My daughter is a vet assistant and they really don't train them on chickens... but they can check for eggs. Just a thought. Best of luck.
