Diary for my second shipped egg hatch due 8th oct 2015

Not yet but it's not for lack of watching lol. Hopefully they don't do what pepper did last year and end up days late!

How are your munchkins looking? Locked down?

Ohh yeah that would be horrible waiting that long!! What day are they due again?

Well I started with 8 eggs under my hen. Candled at 10 days, one was infertile and one was a quitter. Then the next day my other hens broke into my broody hen's pen while i was at work and broke one of her eggs, it was cracked and didn't make it. So that left 5. They're supposed to be due on the 9th... However I was pleasantly surprised to come home from work today to find 3 freshly hatched chicks and 2 eggs with pips! I'm hoping the last two eggs will hatch tonight so I can move the whole group into a better pen in the morning (couldn't move the broody while she was sitting because she'd abandon her eggs). It's all very exciting that is for sure!

It becomes day 21 tomorrow around 3pm. Maybe I'll wake up to chicks in the morning too

No more progress on the pip, but the other one wiggled! So they are both still going strong!

Yes definatley, once with brooders was enough lol. I'm thinking I'll have to sneak them under at night after they have dried so probably tomorrow night at this rate. She is a really good mum though so I'm very hopeful she will take them.

Well we have one little chick! It was just starting to zip so I went and woke my youngest who wanted to see it hatch and then I had to go pick my eldest up from a party. By the time we were just on our way home my youngest rang to say it was out!

It is running round the brooder, knocking my water dishes for the humidity over and causing the humidity to spike up to 80%. Hopefully that won't hurt the little one in the other egg who still hasn't pipped.

Hard to tell for sure as it's still pretty damp but I think it's a black one. My youngest after watching it enter the world has decided we need to keep it even if it is a boy

Now if it would just shut up lol

DAY 21 - We'll Blackie is still peeping on and off and even pecked at the other egg so think it wants it to hurry up too lol

The egg on the other hand is ignoring it totally and no sign of that first pip. I'm starting to worry what to do if it doesn't hatch by tonight. How long can I keep Blackie in the incubator waiting for it to hatch. I want to put them under penny at the same time but what if the other takes a couple more days to hatch?

Have to say I'm surprised how tiny it is. Seems it's half the size pepper was when we first saw her come outside with penny.

Ok so slight technical hitch. The second one went from pip to hatch in 2hrs. When it's hatched though the egg shell is still attached by a thin red string (umbilical cord?). It was running all round the brooder trying to get off it and then the other one started pecking at where it's attached to it so I put a plastic container in the incubator and popped it and the egg in.

It's stopped it running round but the other one keeps climbing in duh.

I've turned the lights out so hopefully they might have a rest (wishful thinking lol)

The first one is a feisty begger. It pecking at it egg shell now. Roll on darkness so it can become penny's problem lol
