Hey thats Halo! lol

Anybody else setting eggs right now?? ;-) I posted this in the hatchalong already...
Woot~ the BCM eggs came today so I've set everything in the incubator!

12 pale green~ lavender ameraucana X EE (shipped) (one cracked, some dirty)
13 lovely dark Black Copper Marans (shipped) (clean, no visible cracks)
7 very light brown barred banty X LF Buff Orpington (mine) it's possible a couple of these could be my BO pullets first 'big girl' eggs, but I'm doubting it. However it will be easy to tell at hatch if they are pure buff; they'll be yellow and the rest of these will be black or grizzled.

Hatch date; Nov 15

Hatching in a borrowed still air Hovabator.

Based on a lot of reading I'll turn the banty eggs twice a day like I did my first hatch; they are laying flat in the incubator. All the shipped eggs are sitting in cardboard egg cartons and I won't turn them for at least 4 days, to give them a chance to settle and get their air cells back where they belong. Even then I will probably just tilt the cartons gently from end to end each day. I'll probably take them out of the cartons when we get to lock down, unless some of you old timers think I should go ahead and leave them upright for hatch.

Hi Mary! We have 3.5 dozen set Tues Eve and more eggs coming tomorrow!

We are sending a bator to sparkey on the thread and she should have it soon enough to set with us too!

that's so cool what you did for sparkey! Just realized I have 32 eggs in there; don't think I could fit in any more! soooo hoping for a decent hatch; my first time with shipped eggs; I put my banties in there even tho I will sell all the chicks, as they are my control group; had 100% of them hatch the first time around, so if they hatch good then I know it wasn't me if the others don't have a good hatch rate ;-)

Quote: 100% AWESOMEness!! Fingers crossed on the shipped. what kinda banty do you have? I used to have them and now all of my stuff is LF. And they eat me out of house! lol but at least they dont fly and get into trouble like the banty!

Sparkey! She is gonna weigh and pack tomorrow as she was on a road trip and had to sleep, so she said she will get up early and get to PO!

I just have 3 barred rock type banties; hatchery birds I"m sure, bought last spring at point of lay. They are in with my LF Buff Orpingtons so the chicks hatch out several different combinations, some with red/brown faces and black bodies, some look like they will be barred black and gold, some look like their mammas. I just got them for eggs because they were available at the time. More interested in Black Copper Marans, BO, and Welsummers. Oh yeah, looking for some true blue egg layers ;-)
